I love Christmas and this time of year. So don't let the title fool you.
BUT my hubby's back went out so badly that he's been in his doctor's surgery room twice now and there may be a third one depending on how the physical therapy goes. 2 slip discs and 1 buldging disc in Lumbar L3, L4 and L5 (poor boy!!). Remember that new job he had that I mentioned last time? Yeah, he lost it because of his back. Thankfully he still qualifies for unemployment again but I'm ready to just give up on my credit score.
He isn't making enough on unemployment so I'm working 2 jobs 6-7 days a week and forget sleep or personal time (i.e. drawing time).
For those I owe, please feel pity on me for not doing your things. The only thing I have caught up on is a banner for the African Wild Dog Fans and that's only because they requested I just alter an existing piece. (thanks for wanting it Kat!) :icon#AfricanWildDogFan:
We're still determined to enjoy Christmas and New Years even if we don't have a Tree or anything to unwrap. LOL... maybe we'll eat out. That's reward enough not to have to eat potatoes and ramen hahaha. Gah!

Update: I won 1st place!
I'm insanely happy to share that I won first place in the juried art show at my favorite gallery, The Dutch Art Gallery in Dallas, Tx. They are absolutely incredible. Nice, inspiring, encouraging. I can't say enough about them!
I've spent years doing commission work of portraits and have just stepped out of my comfort zone (aka grew some testes lol) to risk having my work judged by well known and established artists that I deeply respect.
Both of my entry paintings sold within 3 days before the show even opened! But to get 1st place? I was so sure it wasn't even a possibility. The 73 works in the gallery show are so so amazing and stunning.

My goodness, it's been, what? two or three years? Sorry DA. I've been busy between work and painting that I haven't posted in a while.
So I have a goal to work towards. I want to become a professional wildlife artist. I'm still rough around the edges but I'm working on improving and getting my name out there.

Woot! Woot! I got a promotion!
This makes 4 promotions in 5.5 years!
I am beyond excited and will get to fly to the coast for training with an oceanfront hotel (all rooms have sea views!!!) and paid for food. We're talking GOOD food. Since my hubby's still unemployed I am dancing over the idea of eating meat.. something other than pasta rice potato or bread based. Ugh.. I hate starches at this point, and I NEVER thought I'd say that. Even veggies are too expensive unless canned. I mean, seriously! It's pathetic, I know.
At least I've been able to supplement some expenses by selling poster designs and portrait commissions. Thank you art! Just wish it were more.

Dang, it sounds as if nothing's been going right for you and your family as of late. 
I'm terribly saddened and sorry to hear, about your husband and you enduring this situation especially around the holidays.
Hope his surgery goes well and hope he heals as soon as possible. Hope you two have a good holiday, somehow.
